Here we are in Mexico. I fell in love with this country from my very first trip, between the delicious local cuisine and the breathtaking landscapes. Honestly, I didn’t expect such a strong love at first sight. I only met wonderful people, which once again proves that most Mexicans are kind and welcoming toward tourists.
- Official language : Mexican Spanish
- Currency : Mexican Peso (MXN)
- Caribbean side : November to April (avoid traveling before October, as the beaches are not cleaned and are covered with seaweed). Pacific side : November to March (this is the best time to spot whales).
- Airports: Aeropuerto Internacional de Cancún (CUN)
My crush on Mexico’s Caribbean coast :
Cancún
You’ve probably heard negative opinions about the city of Cancún, and it’s true that the city itself isn’t necessarily worth a long visit. However, you definitely shouldn’t miss Playa Delfines, which for me is one of the must-see spots in the country.
This beach is located in the Hotel Zone and is the perfect place to watch an absolutely magical sunrise over turquoise waters.
I recommend staying one night at a hotel near the beach. Prices in the Hotel Zone are quite high, which is why one to two nights are more than enough.

Playa del Carmen
It takes about 1 hour and 30 minutes from Cancún to reach Playa del Carmen. This city is perfect for shopping and enjoying the nightlife.
You’ll find plenty of souvenir shops near the beach, as well as all kinds of stores along the famous 5th Avenue, known as Quinta Avenida. Music fills the streets, terraces, and plazas, creating a festive and welcoming atmosphere that instantly makes you want to get carried away by the Mexican rhythm.

Rio Secreto
Located just a few kilometers from Playa del Carmen, Río Secreto is a true natural gem. This protected site takes you into an underground world made up of spectacular caves, where impressive stalactites and stalagmites are reflected in crystal-clear turquoise water.
Address : Carretera Federal Libre Chetumal – Puerto Juárez Km 283.5, Ejido Sur 77712 Playa del Carmen
I highly recommend booking your tickets in advance, as spots are limited. Visits are always guided, and personal photography is not allowed for safety reasons. A professional photographer will accompany you and take a few photos during the exploration.
To preserve this unique ecosystem, all cosmetic products (makeup, sunscreen, perfume, etc.) are strictly prohibited.
Tulum
Like Cancún, Tulum has a hotel zone close to the beach. The hotel zone stretches along the coast, between the sea and the jungle, and is connected to the town by a road of about 10–15 minutes.
Cenote Taak Bi Ha
On your way to Tulum, I recommend stopping at Cenote Taak Bi Ha. Open from 9:30 AM to 5:00 PM, this spot is a perfect refreshing break and a great way to discover one of the region’s natural wonders.
Address : Parque Dos Ojos Cenote S/N, Taak bi, 77762 Tulum
Mayan Ruins
Located right by the sea, the archaeological site offers stunning views of the Caribbean. I suggest visiting early in the morning. The tour takes about one hour.
Address : Carretera Ruinas de Tulum 1 Tulum Municipality, Quintana Roo
Transportation : Personally, I preferred taking the bus and taxis to get from one place to another during my trip. The ADO bus company is very reliable and affordable. You can find bus stations in downtown Cancun, Playa del Carmen, as well as in downtown Tulum.
